What is a ‘Sill’

The SILL is the strip of wood that lies immediately on top of a concrete or masonry foundation in wood frame construction, additionally the sill also refers to the horizontal bottom portion of window or a door designed to shed water away from the opening.

What does a sill do?

The sill attaching the framing of your home to the concrete or masonry foundation of your home. It is the first piece of framing that gets installed in the framing process. You are going to want to install a compressible sill sealer between the foundation wall and the sill to reduce thermal leakage and increasing your homes overall R-Value.
